How We Checked and Ranked These Restaurants

Many restaurants in Saigon carry a “halal” tag online, including popular Indian restaurants that serve beer and wine. We only list a restaurant when it is Muslim-owned, displays a halal certificate, or states that all its food is halal, and when nothing we found contradicts that, such as alcohol on the menu or recent reports that the food is not halal. We left out restaurants whose halal status or address we could not confirm, and places that have closed.

When we checked in October 2026, we found no Ho Chi Minh City restaurants on the public register of Halal Vietnam (HVN), the country’s main halal certification body (you can search the HVN certificate register yourself). Where a restaurant displays a certificate, check the issuing body, company name and expiry date yourself. Restaurants with an established Tripadvisor rating are ranked first, by score and how many travellers have reviewed them; the rest follow by Google Maps rating.

Halal Food at Tan Son Nhat Airport

The Jasmine Halal Lounge in the international terminal (T2) is Vietnam’s first airport lounge for Muslim passengers. It is on the second floor of international departures near Gate 17, open 24 hours, with halal meals and separate prayer rooms for men and women. Entry is paid (from about USD 43); ask the lounge to confirm its current halal certification. We found no confirmed halal food outlet or prayer room in the domestic terminals, including the new Terminal 3, so eat in the city before a domestic flight.

Practical Tips for Eating Halal in Saigon

  • Check hours before you go. Small Muslim-run kitchens may close between meals, and hours change during Ramadan.
  • Look for the certificate. Where one is displayed, check the issuing body, company name and expiry date.
  • Bring cash. Some eateries on Nguyen An Ninh Street take cash only.
  • Ramadan: the alley beside Jamiul Anwar Mosque in old District 8 turns into a halal iftar market in the late afternoon during Ramadan, and most halal restaurants offer iftar meals.
  • Know the dishes: ordinary pho, com tam and banh mi are not halal; see what Muslims can eat in Ho Chi Minh City, dish by dish.
